McKenzie Contracting has been operating since 1997 but our experience extends well beyond that. Our flexibility and ability to offer different solutions makes us well sought after. From a young age, Darren (Mac) McKenzie sat on his father’s (Ross) knee on contracts whilst Ross was working for Mac’s grandfather, the late Tracey McKenzie (who had an earlier version of McKenzie Contractors). When Mac left school he earned his keep hay making and fencing. When Mac founded the current version of McKenzie Contracting the focus was on fencing but that quickly grew to include diggers and trucks doing house sites.
Many years down the track our work now includes major subdivisions, beach reclamation projects, specialist projects for Fonterra up and down the North Island and commercial projects whilst still being available for residential and farming work.
The McKenzie Family are a talented bunch. Beginning with the Grandfather - Tracey McKenzie who founded the original McKenzie Contractors and was responsible for much of the roading around Parua Bay and Whangarei (back in the days when they were paid based on the number of corners in the road – who would have guessed?).
His son, Ross, worked for the business and now runs his own business in his “retirement”. Ross's son Hamish (Grub) runs McKenzie Bobcats and he can be contacted on (027) 293 0066.
Mac’s other brother, Andrew (Goose) McKenzie is a builder and he runs Andrew McKenzie Builder. He can be contacted on (027) 476 4376.
Mac, Ross, Grub, and Goose can often be found working on sites together utilising their different skills and sometimes you can also find Ross’s brother Grant and Mac’s son Matthew, or Goose's sons Patrick and James with them too. It's a family business and we love it that way!
